Oil Falls to $113 a Barrel on Drop in China Demand

Oil fell more than $2 to below $113 a barrel as a drop in crude imports by No. 2 consumer China outweighed concerns over supply disruptions stemming from the conflict between Georgia and Al Grillo / AP Russia. China's crude imports unexpectedly fell 7 percent in July to a seven-month low, the steepest monthly drop since January 2005, as refiners balked at soaring crude costs amid lagging domestic fuel prices.

Green Catalysts Can Clean Toxins And Pollutants
Minggu, 28-September-2008
Toxins and pollutants present in the environment means we inhale them and consume them no matter what activity we are indulging in. Although our livers, kidneys, skin and lymphatic systems are constantly fighting against and eliminating these toxins and pollutants from our bodies the quantity has become daunting for our biological systems. With millions of tons of toxic pollutants being pumped into the atmosphere on a regular basis something drastic needs to be done in order to save the environment and consequently, us.

Algae Biofuels Of The Future
Minggu, 28-September-2008
Algae fix the sunlight and carbon dioxide into energy and that too very fast. Scientists want to utilize this quality for alternative fuels. And when it comes to greener alternatives to fossil fuel what could be greener than pond scum? Why algae are more suitable over other bio-fuels? Algae can grow anywhere, practically anywhere. They can grow in sea-water or salty water or adulterated water or even in sewage. They can bear extreme temperature. They can grow on waste-land. Another good thing about algae is they multiply very fast. They can double their weight many times in a single day. Algae produce oil as a byproduct of photosynthesis. They can produce fifteen times more oil per acre than other plants such as corn and switchgrass.

Bacteria Could Power the Future
Minggu, 28-September-2008
Everyday alternative energy scene is garnering bigger and important space in newspapers and industrial lives. People are feeling the need for greener energy and cleaner environment. Some researchers are focusing their attention on one of the ancient living organisms, the cyanobacteria.

Protecting Wind Generators During Voltage Dips
Minggu, 28-September-2008
Wind turbines experience problem due to sudden drop in voltage in a portion of the electric grid. Industrial engineer and member of INGEPER Research Team at the Public University of Navarre, Jesús López Taberna is trying to tackle this problem. His team has come out with a rotor model which predicts how the wind power units will behave under these circumstances. Mr López has already patented two techniques and one of which is already with a manufacturer who will utilize it internationally. They have designed generator turbines in such a way that when voltage dips occur, generators continue to function uninterrupted.

Solar Panel Demand Exceeds Supply
Minggu, 28-September-2008
Many American states are offering incentives to business houses and residents if they are willing to install solar panels for their use. But sadly these incentives are set to expire on 31 December 2008. The solar tax credit offers 30 percent of a system’s cost, but it will go down to 10 percent from January 1 if Congress doesn’t take steps after it returns Monday. Now manufacturers and installers are experiencing a rush for panels before federal incentives can expire. Many solar manufacturers and installers say they can’t take on more orders for 2008 because they’re either out of panels or out of time.

Wind Turbine Noise Solutions
Minggu, 28-September-2008
Wind energy is clean energy but not without its usual baggage. Their noise disturbs those who reside in the close proximity with a wind farm. Many a time wind turbines are forced to operate under partial load so that residents and wind farms can exist in peaceful co-existence. But operating under partial load means lower energy production. Even high winds go unutilized in residential areas. The sources of the noises are many. First is the motion of the rotor blades and another is the cogwheels. Cogwheels generate noise in the gearboxes. These are transported to the tower of the wind turbine, where they are emitted across a wide area — and what the residents hear is a humming noise. This noise comes out as if mosquitoes are buzzing constantly.

Passive Solar Energy
Minggu, 28-September-2008
Solar energy can be utilized in various ways - to provide electricity, mechanical power, heat and lighting. Passive solar heating and cooling can save substantial electricity bills. Design of a building is very important for tapping passive solar energy. The building and windows are designed in such a way that they carefully balance their energy requirements without additional mechanical equipment. Solar benefits are utilized through windows and pumps, and fans are used minimally.

Waste as a Renewable Energy Source
Minggu, 28-September-2008
The enormous increase in the quantum and diversity of waste materials generated by human activity and their potentially harmful effects on the general environment and public health, have led to an increasing awareness about an urgent need to adopt scientific methods for safe disposal of wastes. While there is an obvious need to minimize the generation of wastes and to reuse and recycle them, the technologies for recovery of energy from wastes can play a vital role in mitigating the problems. Besides recovery of substantial energy, these technologies can lead to a substantial reduction in the overall waste quantities requiring final disposal, which can be better managed for safe disposal in a controlled manner while meeting the pollution control standards.

European Marine Energy to Test Tidal Power
Minggu, 28-September-2008
The European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) site is going to be the place where marine energy farm Aquamarine Power is going to become the first Scottish company to test both wave and tidal technologies. Aquamarine Power has reached an agreement with EMEC to place its tidal stream power device known as Neptune at the test site on the Isle of Eday. Neptune is an Edinburgh-based company.

Artificial Trees to Produce Alternative Energy
Minggu, 28-September-2008
A big problem with producing alternative energy is that it takes up lots of land, resources and money to produce little alternative energy. Vast acreage is needed if an alternative energy production plant wants to compete with conventional energy producing plant, let us say to produce, hundreds of megawatts of energy. This is a big hurdle in the way of constructing large-scale solar power plants. The production of solar energy is only feasible at places where the real estate is not costly, or the rooftops of buildings and houses can be used to lay down solar power generation equipment.
